What’s Up Kansas City host Rosina Jiwani interviews award-winning columnist and author Steve Penn on his book, Case for a Pardon: The Pete O’Neal Story. The book chronicles the life of Pete O’Neal, founder of the Kansas City chapter of the Black Panthers, who was arrested for transporting a weapon across state lines. O’Neal fled to Tanzania and has turned his life around, as an activist, community elder, and founder of the Future Leaders Children’s Home based in Arusha, Tanzania. The book brings attention to a petition directed to US Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama for a pardon for O’Neal. O’Neal has been in exile for the past four decades and has been the subject of a PBS documentary A Panther in Africa. Learn more about the book and sign the petition at www.caseforapardon.com
