A judge has ordered the man accused of setting off a small explosion last month near a Colorado NAACP office held without bond pending a hearing next week.
Thaddeus Murphy, wearing a white tee shirt, said nothing during Friday’s hearing before Magistrate Judge Michael Hegarty. The next hearing for the 44-year-old carpenter is set for Wednesday.
The pipe bomb explosion rattled nerves because of its proximity to a Colorado NAACP facility, but investigators say the venerable civil rights organization was not the target. Instead, Murphy was in a rage over his financial problems and was targeting his accountant’s office, according to court documents filed Friday.
