This Oct. 22, 2013 photo, Ralph Brennan, poses for a photo in New Orleans. The legacy of 1940s-era restaurant owner Owen E. Brennan Sr. is evident throughout New Orleans’ historic French Quarter in the form of restaurants run by members of his family, or by chefs who became famous at those restaurants. But the building from which the Brennan’s empire was launched has closed, amid legal battles among family members, a legacy of food and feuding that dates back to the early 1970s. Brennan’s owners lost their historic building in the spring at a foreclosure sale. The new owner is their cousin, Ralph Brennan. Ralph says he was unable to reach a lease agreement with his cousins to save the original. His hope now is to open a new restaurant by spring that will, in his words, “be representative of the family.” (AP Photo/Sean Gardner)

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The legacy of 1940s-era restaurant owner Owen E. Brennan Sr. is evident throughout New Orleans’ historic French Quarter in the form of restaurants run by members of his family — or by chefs who became famous at those restaurants.

His hope now is to open a new restaurant by spring that will, in his words, “be representative of the family.”
