CMG Interview with Mickey Dean on upcoming Reparations Events and Commission Updates

This was an interview between Carlos Nelson from Cascade Media Group and Mickey Dean about reparations and upcoming events. Mickey explained the significance of the August 29th Durban 400 commemoration program, which marks the 25th anniversary of the World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa, where the UN declared the transatlantic slave trade and slavery as crimes against humanity. The event will feature presentations on how reparations would impact education, food sovereignty, economic development, and public safety in Kansas City. Mickey also discussed the Mayor’s Commission on Reparations, which is studying historical racism in five areas and will present an initial report in October. The conversation concluded with an extended discussion about challenges in Black leadership, community organizing, and the role of media in supporting community initiatives.
