Family of detained Briton asks Russia for release
LONDON (AP) — Relatives of a British freelance journalist jailed in Russia with a group of Greenpeace protesters have demonstrated outside Russia’s London embassy to call for the group’s release.

Videographer Kieron Bryan, a Russian photographer and 28 Greenpeace activists have been held since their ship, the Arctic Sunrise, was seized by the Russian coast guard after protesting near a Russian oil rig on Sept. 18.

They were initially accused of piracy, though Russian officials later said the charge been downgraded to hooliganism, which carries a maximum seven-year sentence.

Bryan’s mother Ann Bryan said those arrested had “more than served their punishment.” She called for “common sense, and a sense of fair play and justice” to prevail.

The family and several dozen supporters held their silent vigil outside the Russian embassy on Saturday.
