This is a continuation of Cascade HBCU President Series Thomas Hudson was named President of Jackson State University on November 19, 2020, by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, after serving as Special Assistant to the President and Chief Diversity Officer.
As President of JSU, Hudson’s goals are to enhance the university’s legacy and expand its global footprint, while fortifying the school’s mission to produce ethical and technologically advanced global leaders who properly address societal problems and compete effectively.
As Special Assistant to the President and Chief Diversity Officer, Hudson served as co-chair of the university’s Strategic Planning Committee. He also served on the executive cabinet and provided guidance to senior leadership on all topics related to the university’s future course and trajectory.
A member of the Jackson State staff since 2012, Hudson has also served as Chief Operating Officer/Chief Diversity Officer, Chief Diversity and EEO Officer/Title IX Coordinator.
Thomas Hudson served as Vice-Chairperson of the university system’s Chief Diversity Officers’ Council, a member of the Margaret Walker Alexander Center Board of Directors, and the JSU Athletics Hall of Fame Foundation Board of Directors.
Before joining the staff at Jackson State, Hudson founded his own law practice and served as an EEO specialist for the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA. Hudson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Jackson State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law.
He is a member of the Margaret Walker Alexander Center Board of Directors and the JSU Athletics Hall of Fame Foundation Board of Directors.
