Councilman Lee Barnes, Jr. is serving as Chair of the Neighborhood, Planning & Development Committee, and a member of the Finance, Government & Public Safety Committee during his 2019-2023 term.

Lee is a native of Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Kansas City Public Schools and earned an Engineering degree from Kansas State University.

Lee is currently the Director of Operations for the Swope Corridor Renaissance/Upper Room, Inc., a non-profit organization whose goal is to transform neighborhoods by developing educational programs, providing a child development center, and rehabilitating abandoned housing.

Lee served as an At-Large member of the Kansas City Missouri School District Board of Education. While on the school board, Lee was elected to the position of Treasurer and served as the Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee. He currently serves as Vice President of the Building Corporation Board for the Kansas City Public Schools. In addition, Lee served on the Tax Increment Finance Commission and is currently the Chairman of the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority.
