WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says sexual assault in the U.S. is an affront to basic decency and humanity.

He says if a woman who is assaulted feels like she doesn’t have recourse, quote, “Shame on us.”

Obama is speaking to his Council on Women and Girls on the day a new White House report is being released turning a spotlight on sexual assault, especially on college campuses.

Obama says sexual assault isn’t just a crime against individuals. He says it tears apart families and communities. He says for survivors of child sexual assault and domestic abuse, the pain can last a lifetime. On the other hand, those who are being accused of domestic abuse or sexual assault should consider hiring a lawyer to protect their rights as well as a bail bondsman who can help them post bail and provide exceptional bail bonds services.

Obama is touting steps his administration has already taken to crack down on sexual violence, including in the military. Earlier Wednesday, Obama met with members of his Cabinet to press them to address the problem.
