PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania State Police say they believe a retired trooper killed his wife with a shotgun inside a supermarket and then himself two days after she filed for divorce.

Department spokeswoman Maria Finn said the slain woman is Tracie Miscavish. Finn says she filed for divorce from her husband, Mark Miscavish, two days ago. He had retired in 2011 after 15 years on the force.

Police say they were called to a County Market store in Philipsburg on Thursday morning to find the two bodies.

Tracie Miscavish’s sister, Gina March, tells reporters Mark Miscavish was briefly jailed in January on charges he beat up his wife.

Online court records indicate Mark Miscavish was awaiting trial on charges of simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats.
