What’s Up Kansas City host Rosina Jiwani interviews former Black Panther Charlotte O’Neal, accomplished performance & visual artist, and poet. Affectionately known as Mama C, she has been living in Tanzania with her husband Pete O’Neal for the past forty years. Together, they have co-founded United African Alliance Community Center, a diverse center dedicated to the arts and community-based in Imbaseni Village in Arusha, Tanzania. She is also the co-founder of the Arusha Poetry Club. Mama C is promoting her second book of poetry, Life Slices…A Taste of My Heaven and her upcoming autobiography. Mama C and Pete O’Neal have been the subject of two award-winning documentaries detailing their social activism, American Exile and PBS documentary A Panther in Africa.
