Cascade Media Group President Carlos Nelson Sr., wishes to honor the memory of Charles Wimes, also known as “Chuck”. A titan in the real estate industry, Chuck was a significant influence on my own business development journey. Both of us, originally from New York City and with family roots in South Carolina, found our paths converging in Kansas City.

Chuck generously allowed me to use his office on various occasions and played a pivotal role in securing contracts for my construction company – opportunities that may not have come my way otherwise. I regard Chuck as one of the pioneering black developers in Kansas City, a man who was more of a giver than a taker.

Born on February 27, 1937, in Greenwood, South Carolina, Chuck moved to Yonkers, New York, where he was raised. He later transplanted to Kansas City. His academic achievements were impressive, holding a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Long Island University and an M.B.A in Finance and Economics from Columbia University. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as an air traffic controller during the Korean War.

In 1962, Chuck embarked on a long and distinguished career in the real estate industry, excelling in mortgage banking, real estate finance, and development cooperation. He was widely respected in the Kansas City community for his business success, philanthropic endeavors, and commitment to civil rights. He operated from offices on Ward Parkway and used Neighbors Construction as a general contractor for his projects.
We at Cascade Media salute Charles C. Wimes for his remarkable contributions to the industry and the community.
