Tom Joyner reportedly booted from Radio One against his will: What happened?

Category: Business, Commentary, featured-interviews

This is a very important commentary on how we as black people use the media power and resources at our disposal. Dr. Boyce Watkins voice illustrates the struggle of black media in general and Cascade Media Group (GMG) here in Kansas City in particular. Even though Dr. Watkins disagrees with Tom Joyner in some instances, he is willing to stand up in defense and support of a black man owning and controlling his destiny. The leadership in Kansas City’s black community must latch on to this same ideology. We may disagree on issues but always bond together on principle and the survival of our community.

CMG is the primary digital media platform for the Kansas City African American community. Yet, it does not receive the needed internal support or cooperation financially. This must change. The only way to keep CMG and the black voice alive is if we provide the needed financing and grassroots marketing. We cannot control our internal and external perception without the use of media shaped and voiced by us. Removing Tom Joyner as a radio personality is another example of black people being puppeted at will by owners.

Let’s change the ownership dynamics by listening to this profound commentary and taking immediate action to support the Cascade Media Group. We can keep our voice alive so we stay informed and move our community forward. Others cannot stop what they do not own. We have the right to own our voice and the method to reach the masses.
