WORKING AT THE POST OFFICE USED TO BE A PLUM COVETED JOB

Now we’re lucky to get our mail 3 times a week at home. Business wise
we have a great mailman who we’ve been fortunate to have for many
years and before that we had another that was just as good but it seems
like the hard working letter carriers are becoming a thing of the past.

Coming out of high school in 1976 working for the Post Office was a coveted job with great pay,
lots of holidays off and if you were a letter carrier you had a good route that was doable in an 8
hour shift and you knew almost everyone on that route. The winters were tough but fall,
summer and spring were mostly moderate weather days and the walking was great exercise.
Nowadays no one wants to work an 8 hour day 5 days a week. It seems like folks want to work a
few days or weeks and then take time off. The work ethic of young people today is just not
there.
The Post Office is still a great job if you want it. Old folks depend on getting their mail. That’s
the only person they see daily in some cases. You can not only deliver mail but brighten up a
day.
With email it was thought that the mailperson was going to go away but it seems like there
more mail then ever today. Albeit most of it is junk.
We’ll in retrospect the normal mailperson you used to see is becoming a thing of the past like
lots of other great old service folks.
The Good Ole Days are coming to an end!
